Preventive Maintenance & Performance Verification of Medical Devices (AS/NZS 3551)

This comprehensive course focuses on preventive maintenance (PM) and performance verification of commonly used medical devices, providing the practical experience needed to keep equipment safe and functional throughout its life cycle.

Learning Focus

  • Understanding AS/NZS 3551 requirements for maintenance and verification programs
  • Establishing and following preventive maintenance schedules
  • Conducting visual, mechanical, and functional inspections
  • Performing calibration and performance verification tests
  • Documenting maintenance outcomes and traceability reports

Hands-On Practice

  • Patient monitors, ECGs, and defibrillators
  • Infusion and syringe pumps
  • Ventilators and respiratory devices
  • Suction systems, oxygen flow meters, and vital-signs monitors

Each participant will interpret manufacturer manuals and learn how to determine which verification tests apply to the specific device in hand — building confidence and real-world problem-solving ability.

Outcome

  • Perform routine PM and functional checks per AS/NZS 3551 Appendix E
  • Interpret service manuals and apply manufacturer-specified tests
  • Document and certify maintenance activities correctly
  • Maintain medical equipment reliability, accuracy, and compliance
