Patient area testing

Learn the basics of how medical devices work, including safety principles, regulations, and standard procedures. This course provides a strong foundation for anyone entering the biomedical engineering or healthcare technology field. You’ll gain essential knowledge of how different types of equipment operate, how they are maintained, and the key standards that govern their safe use in clinical environments.

By understanding the core concepts behind biomedical systems, participants will be better prepared to troubleshoot, calibrate, and manage equipment used in hospitals, clinics, and laboratories. The course blends theory with practical insights to build confidence in handling real-world medical devices.

Key Learning Areas:

Electrical Safety Testing (AS/NZS 3551)

Hands-on training on how to test, tag, and certify medical devices for patient safety. This module focuses on understanding the principles of electrical safety, risk prevention, and compliance with the AS/NZS 3551 standard used across hospitals and service facilities. Participants will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for ensuring that medical equipment operates safely and meets national performance and safety benchmarks.

Through guided demonstrations and exercises, learners will perform actual safety tests using biomedical analyzers and test equipment. The course also covers interpreting results, documentation requirements, and how to identify and resolve common safety faults.
